Andate su una spiaggia, di notte, con la luna ancora bassa sul mare, e osservate la scia luminosa della luna riflessa dall’acqua che punta dritta su di voi. Se vi spostate a destra o a sinistra, la scia vi segue sempre, in modo che qualunque movimento facciate, ne sarete sempre al centro.
Ciò che vedete è sempre e comunque una ed una sola scia luminosa, la cui posizione varia sempre in relazione alla vostra.
Se ci fossero altre nove persone sulla stessa spiaggia, ciascuno vedrebbe la medesima cosa, ossia una ed una sola scia.
Una macchina fotografica lasciata sola e azionata dall’autoscatto registrerebbe la medesima scena.
Ma in realtà ve ne sarebbero DIECI: una per ogni osservatore.
Questa è una verità di ordine superiore, rispetto alla propria limitata esperienza. Tuttavia è ancora più vero dire che vi sono infinite scie luminose: una per ogni possibile punto di osservazione.
Esse esistono infatti indipendentemente dalla presenza o meno di qualcuno che osserva in quel momento ed in quella posizione.
Questa verità è dunque di ordine ancora superiore alle prime due e mai verificabile da nessun essere vivente.
E allora, qual è la vera immagine del mare sotto la luna?
Anche se ciò contraddice la nostra esperienza, oltre i piccoli confini della nostra personale capacità di osservazione, il mare sotto la luna è un’unica, immensa distesa scintillante di cui ognuno di noi percepisce solo una piccola parte: quella relativa al proprio punto di vista.
